Hit-N-Miss Co-Owner/Herdsman

Andy Carey

I

am a 5th generation farmer, which is something I am very proud of.  I have lived my whole life on our family farm and really started getting interested in livestock at an early age.  Beginning with registered Boer goats, my livestock showing career took off.  Later came market hogs, sheep and cattle.   I was fortunate to have exhibited numerous champion animals.

I am the herdsman for our livestock operation which encompasses all aspects of our operation.  I not only oversee the daily tasks, but am responsible for herd health, breeding and record keeping.

My maternal grandfather sparked my interest in cattle and helped me start my own herd of beef cattle with a set of 5 Charolais heifers (I bought four and he gave me one).

That was about 14 years ago, and I still have one of those cows, plus several others from that bloodline.

Being able to carry on our family farming traditions is very important to me and I hope one day to have a family of my own and continue our farming legacy.

I don’t have a lot of spare time, but I am carrying on another family tradition with the local county fire department.  I was thrilled to be the first 4th generation county fireman and carry on our families volunteer spirit.
